♦ That Very Week ♦

Just for a week or so
I was bound to stay at home.
As I was sick and on medication,
had no freedom to roam.

That very week I felt
so sad, bored and helpless
and realised how important
the freedom is, It’s priceless.

As a human being I had,
options like reading, watching TV
talking to my friends on phone
and other things to keep myself busy.

But all those options proved futile
to compensate the joy of freedom.
All indoor activities couldn’t
erase the feelings of boredom.

That very moment I got
connected with the plight
of my poor bird, captive
in a small cage day and night.

Unable to express his pain
sad, sorrowful, as if forced to die.
I felt guilty why could I never feel
or noticed his silent cry.

With a heavy heart I got up
and freed him from the cage.
I’ll never keep any creature
imprisoned, I took the pledge.

For the first time I heard
his melodious chirping voice.
Gleefully he fluttered his wings
and merrily made the noise.

His joyful gesture gave me
immense pleasure, “Go away and fly high”
I said with a big smile – “You are
born to touch the sky.”
