♦ IMPORTANCE OF GURU ♦
Guru plays an important role in anyone’s life. Narad is an exemplary Guru to all those in search of salvation with the extra ordinary Bhakti, owing to which he enjoys a close relationship with God. Born as Ratnakar, lives the life of a robber. Valmiki rejects his evil ways and becomes a faithful disciple of Narad. Ratnakar followed Narad with total faith and sincerity. There should not be any doubt between the disciple and guru. God is attainable through devotion under the guidance of Guru.
Till the moment you won’t think you are the lowest among all, you can not understand the greatness of others. Religion is like medicine-one medicine cannot suit every type of disease.
Everyone should choose their own religion and follow it with tolerance. Knowledge gained by any-sage/rishi/Guru can not be transferred to other human beings. The only way is to follow the path laid down by Him/them. Every human can attain that knowledge.
There are two types of followers. One with faith and the other with endowment. If you follow any religion with faith, it will not last long, but with endowment, it will surely last long. He who has conquered the mind can easily conquer the world, say the wise-sage/rishi/Guru. To conquer the mind means keeping it clean and free of impurities caused by sinful thoughts.
The river is personified as a goddess, and bathing in the river (Ganga) is believed to purify and absolve people of sins. Pitted against their idea are also arguments that question the truth and validity of this belief. Who lives on the banks of the Ganga and have occasion to bathe in the waters daily, are cleansed of their sins/ Or is the fish that lives in the Ganga able to achieve Moksha because of its association with the Ganga?
One has to understand the meaning of bathing in the Ganga and the state of one’s mind when bathing. It is the awareness of the symbolic impurity such a sinful thought that lives in the individual’s mind. One has to empty the mind of these to attain purity.
Ahimsa is the soul of all religions. We can not imagine any religion without Ahimsa. All faiths and sastras in one voice hail Ahimsa as the sole pride of humanitarian society since beginning and hence advice people to uphold in their individual and social context.
All Gurus, Swami Vivekanand long ago, and Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra, Sri Arvind Ghosh. Sri Paramhansa Yogananda jee, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, followers all over the world, have, in their message, stressed on Love an antidote for hatred. Hatred causes all calamities as it spurs disunity, leading to inflicting pain and destruction. Hatred colours one’s judgement and causes wrong motions and can spoil one’s character easily.
Once has to be very much cautious of the tendency to misunderstand ideas and concepts, for when once engrained, it becomes very hard to unlearn them. To reach a destination once must follow the right path, path should never be blamed if one does not reach one’s destination. It is not the fault of the path. It is the fault of decision between right & wrong. Love is the root of happiness, where hatred is the root of annihilation. Love and ahimsa are two sides of the same coin.
Love can never bear the fruit of cruelty. Ahimsa fosters all good virtues in people and inspires them towards righteous living. The essence of ahimsa is the absence of hatred, which is the course of all evil. It is, in a genuine sense, a penance that does not like even as it does not encourage one to speak ill of others at any cost. Self-control, Purity of heart, submission at the feet of Lord, Guru, Well-wishers of humanity, following the path of truth are not only the characteristics of ahimsa but teachings of our beloved Gurus, without these qualities, one cannot be true follower of either ahimsa or Satsang. God is not in the sky or in the temples, churches, gurudwaras or at religions places only, but god is within us.
He has explained everything nicely. If we human beings follow his teachings to the letters, the earth will become heaven. His teachings make people kind, benevolent, magnanimous, well-wishers of all living beings. The way to cultivate detachment to worldly attraction and attachment to one’s Guru is to lead a life with the view that the entire universe is the temple of God in which each one is fortunate to live under the umbrella of guru’s blessings. Realised souls see divinity everywhere-every house would become a place of ‘SATSANG’/HEAVEN.
As we call water by different name-Pani, Tanni, Vellum etc, likewise all faiths explain the same thing in different ways, but there is something common in every faith, i.e.- devotion. Devotion is an overwhelming experience felt in one’s inner being when the soul longs to reach the lotus feet of the Lord and it is possible only under the guidance of Guru, following his teachings from the bottom of the heart with any suspicion.
As fish do not remain thirsty in water, to surrender at the feet of a guru is the best path for emancipation of the human soul. The relation between disciple and guru is like iron and magnet. The mind automatically gets attracted to the God as iron gets drawn to the magnet.
It is nothing but faith that arises from the bottom of the heart. The entire universe is like a village. India is a part of it. It is the land of Samrat Ashok, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Maharana Pratap, Veer Shivaji, Sri Khudiram Bose, Guru Nanak, Guru Gobind Singh, Lord Mahavir, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, etc. People from every religion, society have contributed too much to protect the culture and Indianness.
Not based on caste but on the basis of Karma, people are recognised and given status. Vedvyas, Maharshi Valmiki were given the status of great saint. Every one in India must feel proud of being Indian. To blame anyone is not the solution of any problem. How to improve ourselves is the remedy to get rid of all problems. We should follow the teachings of Gurus whole heartily to add a feather to the crown of Our Nation-India. India has always propped aged the message of peace.
