Innate (Basic) And Acquired Value

Everything we see has what can be called its acquired value and its innate or basic value. The acquired value is that which it has picked up by coming into contact with external objects throughout its existence or life. The innate value is what it always is irrespective of its external interactions. For example, the acquired value of gold changes with the fluctuations of its price in the market. Its innate or real value is that it’s one of the most beautiful metals; very ductile, malleable, etc.

If we were asked about the qualities of any good, peaceful relationship with someone, we would quickly reply: love, trust, patience, respect, honesty, sincerity, tolerance, humility, sympathy, etc. How do we know this? Is it purely from experience? Can we remember having really experienced any of these qualities in any relationship completely and constantly? Probably no. Then how can we say it is from experience? In such a case, where does this urge for rightness come from? Our heart tells us it comes from a basic, inherent sense of what is true and good, of our innate value. Though these qualities are what we see as our ideal qualities; when I am in a weakened state, I’m unable to bring them into practice, when I want, according to the needs of the moment. They need to be strengthened inside. One of the most immediate benefits of the practice of meditation then, is to bring about this internal strengthening. My basic qualities are just waiting for a chance to emerge out in the open. Like a light bulb without current, possibility of lighting up my qualities exists, but they need to be connected to a source of power, which is exactly what meditation gives us.

Inner satisfaction brings creativity.

Projection: Quite often I find myself trying to keep pace with the things that I have always been doing. I seem to be caught up in the routine to the extent that I experience monotony. I then cannot think of any newness that I can bring in my life.

Solution: It is only with my inner satisfaction that can I bring creativity in my life. For this, while doing the routine jobs that I am involved in throughout the day, I need to make special effort to keep myself content with the things that are going on and also think of new ways of doing what I am already doing. Then I will never experience boredom in my life.

Negative Control And Positive Influence

The power of influence in relationships is extraordinary, but it practically disappears when we try to exercise control and force.

You can influence anyone positively in many ways:

• encouraging,

• sharing,

• listening,

• communicating in the right way.

In negative control we generate stress, frustration and anger. In positive influence the energy flows in a relaxed way with harmony and is not threatening, respecting each one for their specialty and allowing each one to be as they are.

In order to influence positively we need the power of discrimination and judgement in relation to what to say and what to do e.g. when you believe that the other person is the problem; generally the problem is not what others say or do, but rather how you perceive them. The way that you judge is what creates your negative feelings about them. We have the choice to perceive others as a threat, as a problem, or as an opportunity; an opportunity for learning, for change, for dialogue and understanding. We can choose to have compassion (kindness); to feel that the other is a problem indicates a lack of compassion.

The way to control the mind is to talk to it with love.

Projection: Whenever I find my mind wandering I try to control it with force. I try to pull the mind and order it not to think about something. Yet I find that, the more I try to force the mind not to go in a particular direction, the more it tends to go there.

Solution: The only way to control the mind is to talk to it with love. Just as I would explain to a child, I need to explain to it with love. This will make my mind my friend and I will be able to concentrate even in any undesirable situations.

Can Love And Freedom Co-Exist (Exist Together)?

Is it possible to love each other and be free at the same time? Yes. To reach this state in a relationship great wisdom is required. Most people love one another and tie one another down. Thus they lose their freedom. When freedom is lost, happiness goes away, and true wellbeing gives way to unhappiness. Often we look above all for love, a love we believe will change our life. We see it as the recognition of our inner value by another person. However, we trip over ourselves in looking for this love. Necessity is what motivates us and we try to satisfy it with an object or person who matches up to perfection. We have an immense emotional need for love, and the fear of remaining in a state of unsatisfied wanting. In our search to fill our need, we are prepared to deceive ourselves with unsuitable partners. Many people allow the love of another person to define their personality to such a point that, if they are rejected, they lose any sense of who they are and of the purpose they have in life. Often the relationship is colored, through one of the partners or both, by fear.

To free ourselves of the tendency to depend, we should have a strong heart, without any selfishness; a heart that has nothing to hide and that, as a result, is free and without fear; a heart that does not hold on to closed beliefs, to old negative experiences; a heart that has good feelings and is free of bitterness; a heart filled with the true values of peace, love, freedom and solidarity – which as a result is stronger and fuller.

The Subtle Role Play Of Thoughts And Images

The human soul is a subtle (non-physical) stage on which a subtle role play of thoughts and images constantly takes place throughout the day and even while sleeping. We have explained in our older messages how thoughts are of 4 main different types – positive which are based on virtues, necessary related to day-to-day activities, waste which are mainly unnecessary and related to the past and future and negative which are related to vices and other weaknesses. In the same way, we also constantly create images or scenes, which are of the same 4 types, which is why we commonly use the term ‘the eye of the mind’. The mind not only thinks or speaks subtly but visualizes or sees subtly too, almost all the time.
These two processes function, sometimes independent of each other as well as sometimes dependent on each other i.e. influencing each other e.g. think of peace and that leads to visualizations related to the same. Visualize an unpleasant scene of anger and hatred, and your thoughts are led in that direction. Sometimes these two processes function at the same time and sometimes one at a time. Sometimes neither functions at all, which happens much more frequently while sleeping as compared to when we are awake. This subtle, physically invisible role play is the foundation of the physical role play of words and actions that is visible to the self and everyone else around you.

What the quality of a soul’s thoughts and images (or scenes) that it creates, depends on the soul’s sanskaras. Depending on the quality, the soul experiences the various different emotions, whether positive or negative. When the soul first incarnates on the physical world stage from the soul world, the quality of this role play of thoughts and images is high, pure and positive, hence it experiences only positive emotions. As it plays its different roles and comes down in the birth-rebirth cycle, this quality reduces, leading to the experience of emotions like sorrow, peacelessness, etc.
A point worth noting is that the key to any deep emotional experience, whether positive or negative is the creation of thoughts as well as images related to that particular emotion at the same time e.g. think and visualize at the same time, the death of a close relative that took place ten years ago and you immediately have a deep experience of sorrow. Think and visualize together, a loving hug of your mother that took place in your childhood, and you immediately experience deep happiness. This type of co-ordination between these two subtle processes is true concentration. The key to any type of spiritual upliftment is the upliftment of these two processes. The meditation that is taught at the Brahma Kumaris is nothing but a spiritual thought process accompanied by a spiritual visualization process, whereby thoughts and images of the subtle, spiritual self (or soul) and the Supreme Being (or Supreme Soul) are created together to experience the original qualities of the spiritual self and the eternal qualities of the Supreme Being – purity, peace, love, happiness and power.

Experience: When I am a giver, I do not expect others to change according to my value system, but am very easily able to find a way to adapt to the other person’s value system. I never expect from others to understand me, but am able to understand others. So there is never any feeling of negativity for anyone.

किसी के किये गए उपकार को भूल उसे ही नीचा दिखाने वाले लोगों का हश्र !!

बहुत समय पहले की बात है हिमालय के जंगलों में एक बहुत ताकतवर शेर रहता था | एक दिन उसने बारासिंघे का शिकार किया और खाने के बाद अपनी गुफा को लौटने लगा| अभी उसने चलना शुरू ही किया था कि एक सियार उसके सामने दंडवत करता हुआ उसके गुणगान करने लगा |

उसे देख शेर ने पूछा , ” अरे ! तुम ये क्या कर रहे हो ?”

” हे जंगल के राजा, मैं आपका सेवक बन कर अपना जीवन धन्य करना चाहता हूँ, कृपया मुझे अपनी शरण में ले लीजिये और अपनी सेवा करने का अवसर प्रदान कीजिये |” , सियार बोला|

शेर जानता था कि सियार का असल मकसद उसके द्वारा छोड़ा गया शिकार खाना है पर उसने सोचा कि चलो इसके साथ रहने से मेरे क्या जाता है, नहीं कुछ तो छोटे-मोटे काम ही कर दिया करेगा| और उसने सियार को अपने साथ रहने की अनुमति दे दी|

उस दिन के बाद से जब भी शेर शिकार करता , सियार भी भर पेट भोजन करता| समय बीतता गया और रोज भर पेट भोजन करने से सियार की ताकत भी बढ़ गयी , इसी घमंड में अब वह जंगल के बाकी जानवरों पर रौब भी झाड़ने लगा| और एक दिन तो उसने हद ही कर दी |

उसने शेर से कहा, ” आज तुम आराम करो , शिकार मैं करूँगा और तुम मेरा छोड़ा हुआ मांस खाओगे|”

शेर यह सुन बहुत क्रोधित हुआ, पर उसने अपने क्रोध पर काबू करते हुए सियार को सबक सिखाना चाहा|

शेर बोला ,” यह तो बड़ी अच्छी बात है, आज मुझे भैंसा खाने का मन है , तुम उसी का शिकार करो !”

सियार तुरंत भैंसों के झुण्ड की तरफ निकल पड़ा , और दौड़ते हुए एक बड़े से भैंसे पर झपटा, भैंसा सतर्क था उसने तुरंत अपना सींघ घुमाया और सियार को दूर झटक दिया| सियार की कमर टूट गयी और वह किसी तरह घिसटते हुए शेर के पास वापस पहुंचा |

” क्या हुआ ; भैंसा कहाँ है ? “, शेर बोला |

” हुजूर , मुझे क्षमा कीजिये ,मैं बहक गया था और खुद को आपके बराबर समझने लगा था …”, सियार गिडगिडाते हुए बोला|

“धूर्त , तेरे जैसे एहसानफरामोश का यही हश्र होता है, मैंने तेरे ऊपर दया कर के तुझे अपने साथ रखा और तू मेरे ऊपर ही धौंस जमाने लगा, ” और ऐसा कहते हुए शेर ने अपने एक ही प्रहार से सियार को ढेर कर दिया|

किसी के किये गए उपकार को भूल उसे ही नीचा दिखाने वाले लोगों का वही हश्र होता है जो इस कहानी में सियार का हुआ| हमें हमेशा अपनी वर्तमान योग्यताओं का सही आंकलन करना चाहिए और घमंड में आकर किसी तरह का मूर्खतापूर्ण कार्य नहीं करना चाहिए।

अच्छे लोग और अपने हितैषियों को हम पहचान नहीं पाते और अपने विरोधियों के प्रति पूरी तरह शत्रुता, इन्कारने का भाव रख लेते हैं। इसे चिंतन दोष कहा जाएगा। न कोई पूरी तरह अच्छाई से भरा है और नहीं बुराइयों से भरपूर होगा। मनुष्य गुण-दुर्गुण का मिलाजुला रूप है। हमें इस संतुलन के विचार को सावधानी से उपयोग में लाना चाहिए। अपने विरोधियों के विचार जानते रहना चाहिए, खासतौर पर जब वे आपके लिए व्यक्तिगत टिप्पणी कर रहे हों।

यदि इसका निष्पक्ष विश्लेषण करें तो हमें बहुत सी काम की और हितकारी बातें हाथ लग सकती हैं। इस प्रयोग को झेन फकीरों ने बखूबी किया है। जब भी कोई शिष्य उनसे दीक्षित होता, तो गुरु कहते जाओ, हमने पा लिया, हमारे हो गए, अब कुछ दिन जरूरी रूप से हमारे विरोधी के पास जाकर रहो। हमारा दूसरा पक्ष वहां नजर आएगा, लेकिन जाना निष्पक्ष होकर। इस बात की पूरी संभावना रहेगी कि विरोधी कुछ मामले में सही भी हो।

हमारा और विरोधी का पक्ष मिलकर एक तीसरा नया पक्ष बन जाए जो और भी श्रेष्ठ हो सकता है। यदि तुम्हारा इरादा नेक होगा तो हमारे और हमारे विरोधी दोनों की गलत बात को नकार कर तुम एक नई सही बात प्राप्त कर लोगे। इसलिए विरोधी विचार या व्यक्ति से शत्रुता न पाली जाए। यदि नेक इरादे से चलेंगे तब जो आज शत्रु है कल मित्र हो सकता है। यदि अपने भीतर की आध्यात्मिक योग्यता को विकसित करना है तो विरोधी के विचार को सम्मान देना सीख जाएं। स्वयं के व्यक्तित्व को अपने ही विचारों में बांधें न बल्कि विरोधी के विचारों से खोलना भी सीखें।

सकारात्मक सोच का जादू

एक ऋषि के दो शिष्य थे। जिनमें से एक शिष्य सकारात्मक सोच वाला था वह हमेशा दूसरों की भलाई का सोचता था और दूसरा बहुत नकारात्मक सोच रखता था और स्वभाव से बहुत क्रोधी भी था। एक दिन महात्मा जी अपने दोनों शिष्यों की परीक्षा लेने के लिए उनको जंगल में ले गये।
जंगल में एक आम का पेड़ था जिस पर बहुत सारे खट्टे और मीठे आम लटके हुए थे। ऋषि ने पेड़ की ओर देखा और शिष्यों से कहा की इस पेड़ को ध्यान से देखो।फिर उन्होंने पहले शिष्य से पूछा की तुम्हें क्या दिखाई देता है।

शिष्य ने कहा कि ये पेड़ बहुत ही विनम्र है लोग इसको पत्थर मारते हैं फिर भी ये बिना कुछ कहे फल देता है। इसी तरह इंसान को भी होना चाहिए, कितनी भी परेशानी हो विनम्रता और त्याग की भावना नहीं छोड़नी चाहिए। फिर दूसरे शिष्या से पूछा कि तुम क्या देखते हो, उसने क्रोधित होते हुए कहा की ये पेड़ बहुत धूर्त है बिना पत्थर मारे ये कभी फल नहीं देता इससे फल लेने के लिए इसे मारना ही पड़ेगा।

इसी तरह मनुष्य को भी अपने मतलब की चीज़ें दूसरों से छीन लेनी चाहिए। गुरु जी हँसते हुए पहले शिष्य की बढ़ाई की और दूसरे शिष्य से भी उससे सीख लेने के लिए कहा। सकारात्मक सोच हमारे जीवन पर बहुत गहरा असर डालती है। नकारात्मक सोच के व्यक्ति अच्छी चीज़ों मे भी बुराई ही ढूंढते हैं।

उदाहरण के लिए:- गुलाब के फूल को काँटों से घिरा देखकर नकारात्मक सोच वाला व्यक्ति सोचता है की “इस फूल की इतनी खूबसूरती का क्या फ़ायदा इतना सुंदर होने पर भी ये काँटों से घिरा है ” जबकि उसी फूल को देखकर सकारात्मक सोच वाला व्यक्ति बोलता है की “वाह! प्रकर्ती का कितना सुंदर कार्य है की इतने काँटों के बीच भी इतना सुंदर फूल खिला दिया” बात एक ही है लेकिन फ़र्क है केवल सोच का।

तो मित्रों, अपनी सोच को सकारात्मक और बड़ा बनाइए तभी हम अपने जीवन में कुछ कर सकते हैं।

अच्छे लोग और अपने हितैषियों को हम पहचान नहीं पाते और अपने विरोधियों के प्रति पूरी तरह शत्रुता, इन्कारने का भाव रख लेते हैं। इसे चिंतन दोष कहा जाएगा। न कोई पूरी तरह अच्छाई से भरा है और नहीं बुराइयों से भरपूर होगा। मनुष्य गुण-दुर्गुण का मिलाजुला रूप है। हमें इस संतुलन के विचार को सावधानी से उपयोग में लाना चाहिए। अपने विरोधियों के विचार जानते रहना चाहिए, खासतौर पर जब वे आपके लिए व्यक्तिगत टिप्पणी कर रहे हों।

यदि इसका निष्पक्ष विश्लेषण करें तो हमें बहुत सी काम की और हितकारी बातें हाथ लग सकती हैं। इस प्रयोग को झेन फकीरों ने बखूबी किया है। जब भी कोई शिष्य उनसे दीक्षित होता, तो गुरु कहते जाओ, हमने पा लिया, हमारे हो गए, अब कुछ दिन जरूरी रूप से हमारे विरोधी के पास जाकर रहो। हमारा दूसरा पक्ष वहां नजर आएगा, लेकिन जाना निष्पक्ष होकर। इस बात की पूरी संभावना रहेगी कि विरोधी कुछ मामले में सही भी हो।

हमारा और विरोधी का पक्ष मिलकर एक तीसरा नया पक्ष बन जाए जो और भी श्रेष्ठ हो सकता है। यदि तुम्हारा इरादा नेक होगा तो हमारे और हमारे विरोधी दोनों की गलत बात को नकार कर तुम एक नई सही बात प्राप्त कर लोगे। इसलिए विरोधी विचार या व्यक्ति से शत्रुता न पाली जाए। यदि नेक इरादे से चलेंगे तब जो आज शत्रु है कल मित्र हो सकता है। यदि अपने भीतर की आध्यात्मिक योग्यता को विकसित करना है तो विरोधी के विचार को सम्मान देना सीख जाएं। स्वयं के व्यक्तित्व को अपने ही विचारों में बांधें न बल्कि विरोधी के विचारों से खोलना भी सीखें।
